The Roche Ecrite refuge is a mountain gite at the heart of a forest area in the hamlet of ‘Plaine des Chicots’, in the National Park.
The Refuge can accommodate 30 people, divided into 3 dormitories: 1 dormitory for 8 people, one dormitory for 6 people and 4 dormitories for 4 people, and 3 twin rooms. Pets are not allowed.
With an additional fee, the guardian of the refuge can prepare a delicious Creole meal or breakfast for you.
The Roche Ecrite peak is a 1.5-hour walk from the refuge, with a superb view over the island’s highest peaks, and a panoramic view of the Cirque of Salazie and the Cirque of Mafate.
The refuge is a member of the Association des Gestionnaires des Gîtes de Montagne (AGGM) (Association of Mountain Gite Guardians). Price indicated is in the low season.
Please note: you will need to bring a supply of water, because in periods of drought, it may be in short supply. In this natural area, more so than elsewhere, do not leave any waste behind, to protect the Reunion Cuckooshrike, an endemic bird from this region of the island. There are only a few rare specimens left, as they are under threat from wild cats and rats.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Due to the current health pandemic, the Roche Ecrite refuge will not be run in the same way as usual, to respect the current protocol. Available for bookings: 3 dormitories for 6 people (4 people minimum), 1 dormitory for 8 people (4 people minimum) and 1 dormitory for 4 people (2 people minimum) + 3 double rooms with sanitary facilities.
